A Westspeed Platinum Horse Will Win Over $78,000 In Prizemoney For Every Saturday Metro Win It Achieves in Perth During Its Two And Three Year Old Season!
"She's a well balanced filly with a great free flowing action. Nice forward type out of a speedy family and shows me all the signs of being an early runner"-Trainer Martin Allan.
With the recent increases and the addition of ‘Platinum’ level to the Westspeed Bonus Scheme, I gave Ascot trainer Martin Allan a brief to go to the 2018 Magic Millions Perth Premier Yearling Sale in February and identify an athletic Westspeed Platinum eligible yearling who he thought would be a chance to run as a two year old and therefore give it’s future owners the opportunity of an early return on their investment.
After looking at a hundred or so young horses, Martin selected this filly (pictured below) by the new stallion Galah, partly because she’s a nice athletic type with a sound pedigree, but also because he has a pretty handy daughter of Galah in his stables already. That filly is named ‘She’s A Galah’ and at the time of writing, she’s already won two trials and been placed twice from just race 4 starts. Those two placings were in Saturday company at Ascot.
Galah was a Group 2 winning sprinter/miler by Australia’s pre-eminent sire and now Sire of Sires-REDOUTE’S CHOICE.
After winning his second start as a 2yo, Galah then won his next three starts as a 3yo with wins including the Listed Gothic Stakes at Caulfield and the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes over 1600m at Flemington. He achieved his biggest success as a 4yo by taking out the Group 2 QTC Cup over 1300m. Over all, Galah had 21 starts for 5 wins, 8 placings from 1300m to 1600m and $587,000 in prizemoney. He stands at Rangeview Stud in WA’s south west for $5,500. From limited runners, he’s got the Saturday metro winner Party Night, the stakes placed Cockatiel, and also Flying Target and the aforementioned She’s A Galah who have both been placed in town twice.
This filly is well related, from a very good family being out of the placed mare Secret Crush who’s a half sister to the very good Stakes winning gallopers and full relations KEYTON GRACE and SHOCK VALUE. Out of the handy mare Graceton who won 4 races and was placed in both the Group 3 Sires Produce Stakes and the Perth Stakes (Listed), Keyton Grace won an impressive 10 races including the La Trice Classic, Starstruck Classic and The Hannan's Handicap all at Listed level, whilst Shock Value won almost an equally impressive 9 races including the Birthday Stakes at Listed level-twice, in addition to placing a further 6 times at black type level. Interestingly, all of those 9 wins were on metro tracks! Another full relation Key Biscuit, whilst not achieving black type status, still managed to win 6 races and $197,000 in prizemoney which is not too bad either!
I thought Martin choose very well in picking out this filly at the yearling sales. The appraisal on the vet certificate states that she’s got good conformation, is athletic and well grown. That’s backed up by the fact that she’s already been broken in, has done everything nicely, and as Martin himself reports, she has a terrific, smooth action, has been quick to learn, and takes everything in her stride. And of course, she’s eligible for the all of the lucrative Westspeed bonuses that are on offer, and I simply love the idea of winning over $78,000 for a Saturday win as a two or three year old!
