They say every good horse has a story, and with our new colt by the outstanding 2yo but ill-fated young sire UNENCUMBERED, his may well have come just hours after Grand Syndicates added the impressive colt to their 2018 crop.
With the stock of exciting second season sire UNENCUMBERED high on our shopping list this year, we looked closely at them across every sale that we attended in 2018 but would finally find the colt that we had to have at the Magic Millions QTIS Sale in March.
A big, strapping colt with an excellent family and a proven winner producing dam, we were very happy to have managed to add the son of the 2014 Magic Millions 2yo Classic winner to our stable of progressive young thoroughbreds. Within hours though, of him joining Team Grand, news spread through the crowd that UNENCUMBERED had just passed away at Three Bridges Stud in Victoria. It was shattering news for the many, not least the Victorian breeding industry, as it lost a champion 2yo son of TESTA ROSSA, who had only just served his 3rd crop of mares. As the saying goes though of ill-fated young sires – they all leave a good colt-lets hope that this is him!
On the racetrack, all racing fans will remember UNENCUMBERED. His 2yo season in 2013/14 with Nathan Berry in the saddle was elite. 10 starts, 5 wins including the Wyong Magic Millions 2yo, G3 BJ McLachlan and the jewel in the crown, the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2yo Classic. He amassed $1.9 million in prizemoney and was immediately retired to stud. As a sire, his oldest progeny are only 2yos, with his current yearling crop now the 2nd last crop of sons and daughters of UNENCUMBERED to walk through a yearling sales ring. He’s already produced his first winner, as well a further 3 placed runners from his first progeny to hit the track. while with the size and type of progeny that he has been producing to this point, his current 2yo runners look set to be an exciting 3yo crop later this year.
This colt’s female side has a lot to get excited about too, being by the well-bred US race-mare and importantly, already proven producer Ms Guacamolee. With a 100% strike-rate as a broodmare, Ms Guacomolee’s 4 runners have all been winners to this point, while she is extremely well related, being from a family absolutely chock full of black-type.
A ¾ sister to stakes-placed MR MISSISSIPPI, Ms Guacomolee is also a ½ sister to the stakes-winners DELTA WOLF, MISS WINESHINE as well as stakes-placed SOUTHERN ENDING and USUAL LIES. What’s important to note also is that three of our dam’s sisters are proven black-type producers, having already produced MAYOR MARV, EXCESSIVE VICTORY ZESTY SALSA, SEA RAVEN & SMOKEM’S CHARM – all stakes-winners or stakes-placed gallopers. This means that we know that the family continues to produce high quality racehorses at the current generation.
To be trained by leading Grand Syndicates trainer Bruce Hill on the Gold Coast, this strapping colt is outstanding value with full 5% shares are priced at only $1,100 and Grand’s “no stress” fixed fees at $6.60 a day budgeted to cover all costs. Grand Syndicates continue to make it as affordable as ever to experience the excitement of owning your own racehorse, and we look forward to having you join us in this colt.
